An image of a yellow-tinged night sky with the words "Nordic Summer Nights: Summer Tour 2018" and the logo of the Royal Northern Sinfonia

Friday, 20th July; Thursday, 26th July; Friday, 3rd August in church

Hear Royal Northern Sinfonia on your doorstep this summer, celebrating the great music of the North here at St Michael’s Church. Enjoy enchanting works by Sibelius, Nielsen, and Grieg, including specially commissioned ensemble arrangements of Sibelius’ two best-loved symphonies.

Royal Northern Sinfonia will present three concerts in St Michael’s, Alnwick, each with their own programme and personality.

The first (20th July) will centre around Sibelius Symphony No. 2 and include Nielsen’s Little Suite for Strings alongside several iconic Nordic works.

The second concert (26th July) is entitled ‘ScandiStrings’ and will feature music by Grieg, Sibelius, and Rautavaara.

The final concert in Alnwick (3rd August) will have Sibelius Symphony No. 5 as its highlight, as well as Larsson’s Trumper Concertino with Richard Martin (RNS Principal Trumpet) as the soloist.

Tickets cost £15 or just £5 for Under 18s and are available at sagegateshead.com or from our Ticket Office on 0191 443 4661.

So, let Royal Northern Sinfonia transport you to the land of the midnight sun, and immerse yourself in the toe-tapping dance rhythms, evocative sounds of nature, and wonderful string writing of Nordic music.

Welcome to Nordic Summer Nights…

Homemade Goods Market Stall

A poster showing watercolours of a scone, a ball of wool with knitting needles, and a jar of jam, with the words "Home-made goods from St Michael's Church, baking, crafts, knitting, preserves and much more. Alnwick Market Saturdays 28th July 4th, 11th and 25th August"

Saturdays: 28th July and 4th, 11th and 25th August

The recent cancellation of the Alnwick International Music Festival meant that the related market, where we normally have a stall, was also cancelled. Rather than disappoint our volunteers and our customers, we’ve arranged to take a stall at the normal Saturday market on the 28th July, and 4th, 11th, and 25th August.

We’ll be selling our usual baked goods, crafts, knitting, preserves, jams and more. Anything you would like to donate to the stall will be gratefully received, and everything apart from baking could be brought to church beforehand.

Do mark the dates, come along, and tell your friends!
